Help Local Business - Keep it Local

As we all know, when we buy from local businesses, we are in fact injecting our money into the local community, helping local clubs grow, helping local shop owners grow, if we always shop online and in major chains, we are killing our local communities and only help people like Jeff Bezos buy a new yacht or a new private island.  The more we shop locally the easier it is for local business to be competitive in prices, this I understand is a major factor for many of us, and as a community we can help adjust this balance.

Nestled within the Welsh rolling hills, vibrant coastlines, and rich cultural heritage, Wales is a land of opportunity and enterprise. At the heart of every bustling town and serene village are the small businesses that bring communities together, drive local economies, and preserve the unique character of this proud nation. Supporting local businesses in Wales isn’t just a good deed; it’s an investment in the future of our communities.

Why Supporting Local Businesses Matters

  1. Boosting the Welsh Economy

Small businesses are the backbone of the Welsh economy. They provide jobs, foster innovation, and keep wealth circulating within communities. For every pound spent locally, a significant portion stays in the area, creating a ripple effect of economic benefits.

  2. Preserving Welsh Culture

From family-owned bakeries producing bara brith and Welsh cakes to craft shops showcasing traditional woollen goods, local businesses are the custodians of Welsh culture. Supporting them ensures that these unique traditions thrive in an increasingly globalised world.

  3. Strengthening Communities

Local businesses are more than just places to shop or eat—they’re gathering points that build relationships. Whether it’s a chat over coffee at the local café or a visit to a nearby butcher, these interactions foster a sense of belonging and community pride.

  4. Environmental Benefits

Shopping locally often reduces the environmental impact. Products travel shorter distances, and businesses are more likely to source materials and goods from nearby suppliers, cutting down on carbon footprints.

How to Support Local Businesses in Wales

Choose your neighbourhood stores over larger chains whenever possible. Whether it’s fresh produce, clothing, or services, explore what your local area has to offer.

  2. Spread the Word

Share your experiences with local businesses on social media, leave positive reviews, and recommend them to friends and family. Word of mouth is a powerful tool for growth.

  3. Attend Local Markets and Events

Farmers’ markets, craft fairs, and community events showcase the best of Welsh enterprise. By attending and making purchases, you directly contribute to the success of local entrepreneurs.

  4. Collaborate with Local Suppliers

If you run a business, consider sourcing your supplies or services from local providers. This not only supports the local economy but also strengthens B2B relationships in the area.

  5. Utilize Platforms Like What’s Here?

Innovative platforms like What’s Here? help local businesses connect with customers in their community. By listing your business or using these apps to discover others, you contribute to a thriving local ecosystem.
